Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips along with President Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
